About

Read a Book, Earn a Book is a student-centered program offering one-on-one support to boost literacy in the Charlotte area. Each student chooses a book from a set of pre-selected titles. That book is then read cover to cover with tutor support and “earned” upon completion.  It is a simple and successful program.

Read a Book, Earn a Book

Read a Book, Earn a Book is a proven approach, developed in close partnership with academic and community literacy specialists. Generous supporters enable us to provide this programming at no charge to our community partners.

We promote literacy by providing engaging reading material in a learning environment that is always safe and supportive. Our approach builds trust, boosts confidence, encourages goal setting, and promotes a love of reading.

Read a Book, Earn a Book is structured around investing 30 minutes/week per student. We ask our community partners to encourage volunteers to commit to 2 student per week, back to back (60 minutes per week).
