In honor of those men and women who served and to those who gave their lives in Vietnam- from the people of Mecklenburg County. With this we reflect on the past, share with the present, and educate ourselves for the future.
(Inscription on the memorial wall)

They came from Steele Creek, Huntersville, Myers Park, Mallard Creek, Mint Hill, the Westside, Matthews and all parts of Mecklenburg County. During the Vietnam War thousands of men and women from the county served our country and 105 gave their lives in the cause.

News & Announcements
  • The Memorial is now accessible from the Sugar Creek Greenway in uptown Charlotte. Now you can bike or walk along the water, enjoy the sights and visit the tribute to local veterans who served in Vietnam.
This website tells the remarkable story of building the Mecklenburg memorial to honor local veterans and to document the history of our involvement in the Vietnam War. The granite panels tell of advisors, troops, presidents, military units, firefights, coups, landing zones, casualties, air strikes, demonstrations, peace talks, evacuations and much more. Most importantly those who died are forever honored in a beautiful place under massive oaks near uptown Charlotte.

We hope you will visit the memorial in person; walk the 270-foot granite arc while reading the historical timeline; view a map of Southeast Asia during the war; honor the names of those from Mecklenburg County who died; experience the war through the poems of a Vietnam veteran; and, pause to reflect at the American and POW/MIA flags.

Be sure to check this website for announcements about activities at the memorial, local veterans’ events and educational programs about the Vietnam War.
