National Geographic Live: View From Above at Discovery Place Science

  • When: Tuesday, January 29, 2019,  6:00 pm -  9:00 pm
  • Location: Discovery Place Science 301 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, North Carolina 28202.

As a NASA astronaut, pilot of the space shuttle Endeavour and crew member on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, Virts spent 200 consecutive days in space – one of the longest continuous space missions of any NASA astronaut.

Terry Virts is a pilot and astronaut who has logged over 5,300 flight hours in more than 40 different aircraft including the F-16 “Viper” and the Space Shuttle. He has taken more photographs from space than any other astronaut and appeared in the 2016 IMAX film A Beautiful Planet.

Before his presentation at McGlohon Theater, fly over to Discovery Place Science to go beyond earth and learn all about our solar system! How long is a day on Mars, what do you weigh in space and what's your space height? Explore the wonders of the universe by relaxing under the stars in the Star Lab inflatable planetarium and have a look through a telescope.

Terry Virts will begin his presentation in McGlohon Theater at 7:30 p.m., following the pre-show party at Discovery Place Science.
