Matthews, NC – Together with Novant Health, Matthews Fire and EMS will hold a traditional “wetdown” ceremony to celebrate the arrival of Fire Engine 12, a new fire truck recently purchased by the Town of Matthews. Equipping the truck was made possible through a generous donation from Novant Health.
The ceremonial tradition includes the old fire truck spraying down the new truck that will replace it. Fire Engine 12 will then be wiped down by firefighters and local citizens in attendance, and pushed into the Fire Station signaling the truck is now in service. Following the ceremony, Matthews Fire & EMS will hold a recruitment open house from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Learn about becoming a Volunteer Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Corp member, or Explorer Tour the station, check out the apparatus, wear the gear and handle the equipment.
This event is open to the public and those in attendance will be invited to participate in the ceremony by wiping down Fire Engine 12 with commemorative towels.
