Slow Flow Family Fun Day

  • When: Saturday, September 18, 2021, 11:00 am -  3:00 pm
  • Location: Goat Island Park, Cramerton, NC.

Kayak with the kids at the Slow Flow Family Fun Day on September 18! We’re offering kayak rentals to families from 11a-3p down the slowly flowing South Fork River.
This stretch of the River is beautiful and great for beginners and intermediates alike! The slowly flowing water carries you downstream making for an easy day of paddle. Typically, folks spend an hour to an hour and a half on the water.
For this trip, meet at the Goat Island Kayak Launch (next to the fire station) in downtown Cramerton, NC. From there, you’ll take our shuttle* to the McAdenville South Fork River Greenway launch. At the launch, you’ll be outfitted with a kayak, a paddle, and PFD. We’ll give you some brief instruction before you paddle downstream (about 1.5 miles) on a self-guided tour.
*Masks are required on the shuttle bus and will be provided.
Age Restrictions – Kids must be 8 years or older to paddle in a kayak by themselves. Kids as young as 4 can ride along in a tandem kayak.
Date: Saturday, September 18
Time: 11a-3p (Show up whenever works for your family. Shuttles run every half hour starting at 11a. Expect to be on the water for an hour and a half).
Tips for a Great Day
Before or after paddling, grab some ice cream (or coffee!) at Floyd & Blackie’s in Cramerton. Doffer’s Canteen also makes a great lunch spot in Cramerton.
Bring a towel and a change of clothes if you plan to hang around town after you get off the water. Public restrooms are available next to the Goat Island Kayak launch.
As always, we recommend sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. Don’t forget your water bottle! Shoes with a heel strap are strongly encouraged.
