Fired Up! at Discovery Place Science

Have you ever seen an ice cube on fire? Ever wondered where fireworks get their magnificent colors? Fuel your curious mind with an explosive fire demonstration that explores the unique properties of different fuels.
In this show, oxygen, heat and fuel capture all of your senses with experiments so fiery the “don’t try this at home” label is singed. Feast your eyes on the distinct colored flames of Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Strontium Chloride and Copper Chloride. Listen for the “whoosh” of an ethanol explosion, and prepare to plug your nose from the pungent odor of an acetylene gas reaction.
Be sure to stick around until the end of the show for your chance to volunteer to help our scientist with a hydrogen balloon explosion. Just don’t forget to plug your ears!
