Indian Summer Series: Ishi: The Last of His Kind at The Schiele Museum of Natural History

Duke University anthropologist Orin Starn will discuss the story of Ishi, the so-called “last wild Indian in North America” who hid out for decades in the California mountains until his capture in 1916. Learn about the challenges confronting Native American people in the face of invading pioneers, and the remarkable story of Ishi’s life in hiding and as the lone survivor of his Yahi tribe in modern San Francisco.

This presentation is free for Schiele Members and included with general museum admission.
