Backcountry Days Festival at Charlotte Museum of History

  • When: Saturday, September 7, 2019, 12:00 pm -  5:00 pm
  • Location: Charlotte Museum of History 3500 Shamrock Dr, Charlotte, North Carolina 28215

Join the Charlotte Museum of History for our annual Backcountry Days Festival exploring the history and culture of the Carolina Backcountry’s early residents, including European colonists, enslaved people, and the Catawba Indian Nation, and the enduring traditions that impact our daily lives and artistic expression today.

We are very proud to partner with the Charlotte Folk Society on this event. CFS is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting the enjoyment and preservation of traditional and contemporary folk music, dance, crafts, and lore in the Piedmont area.

Whether you are a family with kids, a retired history enthusiast, or a young professional, we have something for everyone! Bring a lawn chair or your picnic blanket and join us for an outdoor concert on the lawn of Mecklenburg County's oldest surviving structure. Food will be available for purchase at the event.

In addition to the musical heritage of our region, stop by to learn about traditional foodways in the reproduction 18th century kitchen, watch skilled artisan demos including blacksmithing, textile production, and basketry, learn how instruments are made, and much more!

This event is FREE and open to the public and made possible in part thanks to support from the Arts & Science Council.
