Free Reign Theatre Company is proud to announce its upcoming production of Sherman L. Sergel’s adaptation of Reginald Rose’s timeless courtroom drama, Twelve Angry Jurors. The title has been updated to include women and female-identifying individuals in the cast. The play will run from May 8, 2025, to May 18, 2025, with performances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, along with a “pay-what-you-can” night on Thursday, May 8 at 7:30 pm at the Tom S. Gettys Center Courtroom (2nd level), located at 201 E Main St, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
This gripping and thought-provoking play takes audiences into a jury room where twelve people deliberate the fate of a young defendant accused of murder. With only one juror initially standing in opposition to a unanimous guilty vote, the tensions, moral dilemmas, and complexities of human nature unfold as each juror’s biases, convictions, and personal lives are revealed. Director Katie Bearden leads a talented ensemble cast of local actors, bringing fresh energy to this classic story while staying true to its powerful themes of justice, prejudice, and the importance of standing up for what’s right. “Since the movie’s release in 1957 starring Henry Fonda, this work and subject matter is still a part of our social and judicial makeup. Our conscious and unconscious biases as humans still can affect our fellow citizens every day,” said Bearden. “This play is a reminder that no matter what decade we’re in, we will always have learned behaviors that may impact the course of another person’s life.”
The cast features the local Charlotte and Rock Hill talents of Tiffany Bryant-Jackson, Tim Human, Harold Skinner, Xavier Stinson, Benjamin Harter, Nathan Morris, Abbi Minessale, Nyle Lottihall, Patrick Brady, Tim Boyer, Jonathan Essex, Spirit Craig, each taking on the complex roles of the twelve jurors, whose diverse personalities contribute to the tension-filled atmosphere of the play. Advisory: This production has simulated violence, and topics of death, murder, racism, and killing.
