Make the Last Days of Summer Count Without Breaking the Bank

Summer vacation is almost over for many kids here in the Charlotte area. As parents we should make everyday left of summer count for them, and this way they won't feel bad about going back to school again. Lets take full advantage of the joy our kids radiate while they soak up the summer fun. Today we will be featuring fun activities you can do with your kids, and not find yourself stuck spending so much money at the end of the season. Here are a variety of prices under $25, $10, $5, $1, and the best one FREE.


Free Fun

Bowling is always a cool idea to do with the kids, or even the whole family. In our Fun around Town section, you can find several of places where you can take the kids an afternoon and bowl for free. My boys and I love going to Park. Also LYNX Blue Light Rail to uptown and enjoy a fun ride. Also, here's a tip: children under 5 can get a free ride. Go ahead and head out to a Splash Park and have a fun day.

New movies for the kids are always playing in the theaters, but it can be very expensive sometimes. If you check out our What's Happening tab under Summer Kids Movies, you can find awesome movie theaters that let the kids watch movies for FREE during the summer time. Don't worry about driving too far away because there is always a good theater near you. Go ahead and see which one fits best for you.


Looking for an outdoor activity that will keep the heat away? Definitely head out to the Romare Bearden Park, it's definitely worth checking out, especially on a hot day. The cascading waterfalls and misting area are a perfect spot to cool off in. The Park also has a large green grassy area for kids to run around or have a picnic. Across the street from the park is the Knights new baseball stadium which is open to the public to tour at no cost.


Sometimes we get bored of the same playground structures we fin around town, so if you are looking for a park to take your kids on a different adventure Crooked Creek Park is the place for you. It's great Place for the entire family to have fun on a one-of-a-kind playground, walking and bike trails, dog parks and bocce ball courts. The unique playground is complete with a zip line and fallen tree climbing structure tunnel. Enjoy the expression swing, a face-to-face parent-child swing.

It is always great to take the kids out for lunch or dinner, and treat them on a special meal they don't get to have every day. There is always plenty of restaurants that offer Free meals for kids during the Summer time, especially on Tuesday. Go ahead and check out our What's Happening Section and check out the Kids Eat FREE section. There is a great variety depending on what your kids love the best.

The summer time is an awesome time to have picnics here and there, but why not make it more fun by heading out to the Airport Overlook Park. Pack your lunch or snacks and come here to watch the planes take off and land at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport.

Under $5


We all know that during the summer we can expect rainy days here and there, so if you don't want to be stuck at home waiting until the rain to go away head out to SAS Cupcakes. Every Tuesday they have all their cupcakes in store for just $2 dollars. Go ahead and have a nice treat.

This heat is something we can avoid this Summer; it follows us everywhere. For just $3 dollars go ahead and head out to the Lineberger Park Pool. Designed as more of a small-scale water park, it has a little bit of something for everyone. It features a zero-depth entry with fountain geysers on "the beach," a lazy river, a two-story waterslide, three lanes for lap swimming, and colorful splash features including a bucket dump and three rainfall aqua domes. There are restrooms with showers and dressing space. A free basket service is offered to keep personal belongings. Lounge chairs are available to rent. A concession stands located within the corner of the pool house serves swimmers and park patrons. Pool capacity necessitates the observance of sessions (2.5 hours each) for public swim.

Go out for a Play Mini Golf at Mr. Putty's Fun Park on Fridays during Summer is only $5 all day.  FREE. Don't forget to check out our calendar for more specials hosted on Wednesday's.

I enjoy going on day trips whenever I have the opportunity. One of my favorite places that I like to escape to is Crowders Mountain State Park. It is just a couple of miles away from the city, and for just $5 dollars you can rent a canoe and paddle away. Check out our day trips activities; they won't disappoint you. 



Under $10

If your kids love outdoors and nature activities, a nice plan can be to head out to Charlotte's Nature Museum.You get to learn about plenty of things, but at the same time it has plenty of fun games and activities your loved ones can join in. Admission tickets are only $8 for a full day.

Don't let the rain keep you from having fun. A fun thing you can do with your kids is to enjoy your day at an indoor splash park. Ray's Splash Planet has a big special for only $6. It is a different concept compared to other splash parks, but I bet you it will be loaded with fun activities.

Check put Ten Buck Tuesday at Mr. Putty's Fun Park this deal includes 18 holes of golf, 8" personal pizza (pepperoni or cheese) & an ice cold beverage! 


Under $25

Sky zone charlotte is always a good idea no matter the weather. My kids always end up super tired of all that bouncing activities featured here. For just $11 you cam have a 30 minute bounce, and if you don't have socks for only $3 dollars more you can purchase them and save them for another day.

One of my kids loves to have fun with art activities, so we like to head out to Dish it out and do our own pottery. The prices range depending on the size of the pottery, but normally they don't go over $12. Go ahead and check out our website for more information.

Sometimes its overwhelming having the kids everyday at home with you, so if you need a little bit of time for yourself go ahead and drop them off at Tipsy Pain Brush. Every Day during the summer time for only $25 you can drop of your kids (6 and up) for 2 hours. They get to do so many things during these two hours, and at the same time you can get some errands out of the way.
