BUDDING NATURALISTS - SPROUTS

Investigators is designed for the 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade student.

Bring scientific inquiry outdoors with a challenging, in-depth study featuring facilitated activities and time for independent reflection. Choose from one of the following topics:

Tree Identification: Discover the oldest, tallest inhabitants of Wing Haven with a program on tree identification. Students will learn to identify common tree species, practice bark and leaf classification, take a guided tree walk, and write “Tree Legends” inspired by their recorded observations.

Elements of a Bird Habitat: Learn all about birds’ habitat needs in an urban bird sanctuary! Students will learn about local songbird species and their habitat needs, take a guided bird walk through the gardens, and leave with ideas to create better bird habitats at their homes and schools.

Biodiversity in a Native Plant Garden: Discover first-hand the complex interactions between pollinators, decomposers, plants, and animals in a native plant garden! Students will learn about the benefits of native plants for biodiversity, survey the SEED Wildlife Garden for plant and animal life, and analyze their findings.

The class series takes place every other Wednesday, all 3:00 - 4:30 pm:
- September 30
- October 14
- October 28

Students may be dropped off by parents or accompanied by class educator.
