Kwanzaa Celebration Workshop (Online Event)

  • When: Tuesday, December 29, 2020,  7:00 pm -  8:00 pm
  • Location: Online Event.

In lieu of our usual day-long celebration at the Gantt, we will commemorate the African-American cultural celebration, Kwanzaa, virtually this year. Learn about the fundamentals of the holiday, as well as the fourth principle Ujamaa. We will also share several ways you can celebrate with the whole family during the seven-day observance.
2020 has shown us that our support of local businesses is crucial to their survival. For that reason, we have chosen to celebrate Ujamaa, which represents Cooperative Economics. Ujamaa highlights the importance of supporting our community’s businesses and sharing in the wealth that we create.
Kathy Fogle, a local candle artist and owner of Happy Kat Candles & Gifts, located at both Northlake and Carolina Place malls, will lead us in creating candles at home. In the spirit of the holiday, Kathy has generously donated 30 supply kits to help more families participate in this experience. Select the $10 ticket to cover the cost of shipping.
Reservations for a candle-making kit must be in by December 15th at noon. Any participants who register after December 15th are more than welcome to share in the experience and learn about Ujamaa; however, you will need to purchase the necessary supplies yourself. Here is a list of the materials you will need:
