Common Heart's focus is on helping to meet current needs for our neighbors in poverty while helping them to not only get by, but get ahead. Programs focusing on economic empowerment provide the basis for families to build social capital, break through barriers and build their own resources for self sufficiency. Additionally, Common Heart operates 6 local food pantries in Union county, NC providing over 435,738 meals in 2018 to an average of 750 families. Of the estimated 22,000 hungry children, women, men and senior adults in our community last year these pantries served 7,702. Common Heart's approach provides more than food, it provides friendship and empowerment toward self-sufficiency with over 700 volunteers serving our neighbors. Your participation helps to expand this small revolution of kindness through these pantries, and the economic empowerment programs providing training, support and a way for our neighbors living in poverty to engage and be advocate for solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty locally.
